Derra West
Renewable Energy Project
Welcome to our project’s website
Empower Renewables are currently in the design phase of a proposed renewable energy project in the townlands of Derra West, Inch Moor, Inch East, Coolard, Garryard and Carhoonaknock, approximately 1.5km northwest of Listowel, Co. Kerry. This website will provide accurate and up to date project information as the potential project’s design evolves.
We are committed to developing responsible renewable energy projects in a way that is good for us, good for Ireland and good for the communities local to our projects. We acknowledge this can be challenging. Therefore, we commit to managing the design and development of this potential project in a responsible and collaborative way.
Our aim is to cultivate meaningful conversations with any interested stakeholders so that a locally sustainable renewable energy project can be realised and help to deliver Ireland’s 2030 energy targets.
Early assessments indicated that this general area has capacity, in principle, for a renewable energy project pending further study. Constraints such as setback distance to housing, designated environmental areas, cultural heritage, existing grid infrastructure, hydrological and ecological features are initially assessed. The objectives of the Kerry County Development Plan 2022-2028 have also been considered, along with the topography and aspect of the Study Area.
The proposed Study Area is then further refined, to establish a potential ‘Buildable Area’ by identifying key environmental and technical constraints. These constraints inform the locations within the project’s Study Area where project infrastructure can potentially be placed.
